Training risk calculation for cross-contamination of allergens (VITAL) in class

When managing allergen risks, action limits and thresholds play an important role. When is there a risk for the allergic consumer and when not? And when must a warning be placed on the label ('may contain' also known as Precautionary Allergen Labeling (PAL))? Effective January 1, 2026, the following applies: Dutch allergen policyThis makes it mandatory to carry out a risk assessment for possible cross-contamination with allergens.

Based on scientific information, so-called reference doses have been established. These safe limits are used in the quantitative risk assessment (QRA) of allergens. In the Netherlands and several other European countries, as well as in VITAL 4.1, the reference doses are applied as advised by FAO/WHO. 
In addition, retailers ask for a quantitative risk assessment from their private label suppliers before cross-contamination with allergens is stated on the label. A specific format is often required for this. 

Calculator

This training uses the Allergen Risk Calculator. This format is accepted by all Dutch retailers. It can be uploaded as 'VITALcalculation' in TraceOne (AH) or SIM (including Jumbo, SuperUnie). 
The Allergen Risk Calculator (ARC) can be used free of charge for six months after the training. After that, it is possible to update service To be completed. A new license will then be automatically sent annually. If new versions of this calculation tool are available, they will also be sent. 

Prefer a calculation in the VITAL Online calculation tool of the Allergen Bureau? That's possible too! We're endorsed. VITAL trainer, since 2012. Then follow the training in which VITAL Online is used as a basic tool. Or indicate in the comment when registering that practicing with VITAL Online is desired. Although the explanation of this training uses the ARC as a basis, the exercises can be done online. VITAL Be performed online. The approach is similar.

The training is intended for quality or QA officers of food manufacturers, product specification managers, auditors of certifying bodies and Regulatory Affairs Managers and R&D. 
In short, everyone involved in food safety and labelling.

Learning objectives and topics

This course will discuss the correct application of a quantitative allergen risk calculation using cases and practical examples. 

The Allergen Risk Calculator (ARC) calculation tool, developed by Allergenen ConsultancyAfter completing the training, you will be able to independently perform a quantitative allergen risk calculation.

• Application of analyses within quantitative risk calculation.

System Requirements

During the training, we use the Allergen Risk Calculator. This tool is an Excel application and fully compatible with Excel versions from 2021 onwards. Some functionality may not work in older Excel versions. The file is not suitable for Excel for the Web (Online).
Mac users are advised to use a Windows emulation.

Cancel

If you are unable to attend, a colleague may take the vacant seat. Written cancellation is possible up to 2 weeks before the start of the course. We then charge € 37,50 administration costs. If canceled within 14 days before the start of the course, the full amount is due. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, the course may be rescheduled to a later date. Of course there is the possibility to refrain from further participation. For classroom training, it can also be decided to move the course to location Scherpenzeel (head office Allergenen Consultancy).
